Carl F. K. Pao and myself have created some new works for Maka 3.5 at Cedar Street Galleries. Staying true to the Maka- series, this show is some where between last year's MAKAkolu and this November's MAKAha in which we will be adding a fourth artist to the group show. Please join us tomorrow night. If not you can always swing by and check out the exhibit, it will be up until October 23rd.

In anticipation for this year's IUCN environmental conference which will be held next month here in Honolulu, DLNR is releasing short video segments that highlight the many conservation projects going on through out the state of Hawaii. The program that I work with has been recently highlighted in local news and a video has been prepared. My day job involves the conservation and rehabilitation of endemic Tree-sails here in Hawaii. Have a look. https://vimeo.com/179760822
For the past few months I have been in conversation with these two brilliant people who have allowed me to explore the unique position of being a contemporary Polynesian Artist. Through a series of emails between Dan Taulapapa McMullin and myself, Jane Chang Mi facilitated the opportunity for new perspectives to be revealed and shared. You can find our conversation here.
Prior to my having an artist's website, word was out that the Honolulu Biennial was coming to town and there would be international and local artists featured in the inaugural event. You can read the original article by clicking here.
Mahalo to all who spent their Friday evening listening to a 26 year old talk about his goals, challenges, insecurities and artistic intentions. We had a great turnout for this low key event with close to 75 people showing up. Having only planned for 40 to 50 people, I am humbled and grateful to see that there is such an interest in art in Hawaii, Hawaii artists and the Honolulu Biennial. Thank you to the Honolulu Biennial Foundation for putting together this event.
For those who were unable to join us last night, the conversation between myself and Isabella Hughes was recorded for release as a podcast of which I will work on getting the details. |
